Product engagement tools monitor activity and allow product managers to target interventions with users who meet specific criteria in order to maximize engagement. These tools can also be leveraged for product training and for customer marketing purposes to promote upsell, as well as to engage in conversations with users through an application. They are specifically designed for use with Web- or mobile-based products where individual users can be identified through a unique login. Product engagement technology usually includes two broad areas of functionality. They allow the capture of extremely detailed analytics and usage data down to the individual user level. This allows tracking and analysis of user activity at a very granular level to understand patterns of engaged and non-engaged users. These tools also allow for messages, communication or guides to be added to “intervene” with users in the product and be displayed only to users who meet specific criteria. These “interventions” are often used to highlight specific features, provide guidance, allow users to provide feedback or ask questions, or solicit users for research.
